Insurance system

The Swiss insurance system is based on three pillars. 1st pillar: Old-age and survivors' insurance (AHV)

2nd pillar: Obligatory occupational pension (BVG)

3rd pillar: Voluntary private pension (savings). The BVG was introduced in 1985. The aim was to reach the last working income with the pension payments of the BVG and the benefits of the AHV and thus secure the usual standard of living in retirement. Experience has shown that this percentage is too low in many cases. The 3rd pillar is therefore becoming ever more important in safeguarding the financial future.
